Alan Cave

Alan has been a principal of CKA since its formation in 1989, with 12 years of prior professional experience within South Africa and Canada as well as 7 years experience on mining projects in South Africa and the UK.

He is a registered Landscape Architect with the Board of Control for Landscape Architects.  He graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a B.Sc. Mining Engineering degree, and later completed a post graduate Diploma in Landscape Design at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  He has also completed a course in Environmental Impact Management at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town. 

Particular aspects of experience include: environmental impact assessment and controls, integrated environmental management, landscape master planning, campus master planning, and recreational planning. He was made a Fellow of the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa in 1991 and retains membership with the following institutes:  International Association of Impact Assessors, Institute of Waste Management, South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. 


Menno Klapwijk

Menno has been a principal of CKA since its formation in 1989, with eight years of prior professional experience within South Africa and the United States.

He is a registered Landscape Architect with the Board of Control for Landscape Architects.  He graduated from the Texas A&M University in the United States with a Bachelors of Science-Landscape Architecture as well as completing a course in Environmental Impact Assessment at the Graduate School of Business, University of Cape Town.

Particular aspects of experience include;  integrated environmental assessment and planning, visual impact assessment, mining and quarry reclamation, site/master planning, landscape design, recreation planning, park planning, and golf course design.  Memberships include the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the International Association of Impact Assessors and the Institute of Waste Management
